And Our Next Light Novel Club Selection Is… Didn’t I Say To Make My Abilities Average In The Next Life?! (Vol. 1)

Somehow, the Light Novel Club has yet to cover an isekai with an overpowered protagonist, even though that is one of the most popular light novel story setups at the moment. Well, why not cover one next time? And let’s do a more lighthearted title, too, since we haven’t covered too many of those, either. And for those of you who are tired of overpowered male isekai protagonists… well, the protagonist is a girl, for what that’s worth.

Presenting: Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!

Summary of Volume 1 from Seven Seas Entertainment:

When gifted student Kurihara Misato dies right after her high school graduation, she meets God and has a peculiar request: to make her abilities average in the next life. But few things–especially wishes–ever go quite as planned. As she navigates her new life as a ten-year-old girl in a magic-filled world, she realizes God has a unique definition of average!

An anime adaptation for this light novel has been announced for sometime in the future (no set air date yet), so now is a good time to find out what this series is all about. The author, FUNA, is one of the most popular light novel authors right now, too, with three light novels in publication both in Japan and the West. This one’s going to be a lot of fun, and there’s some topics that can be discussed, too, so pick up volume 1 and join TWWK, JeskaiAngel, and me for our discussion on July 12th!

Frank is known as "stardf29" on various parts of the Internet; it stands for "Star Defender 29", which is something he came up with during his chuunibyou years. Now, when he's not doing things for the Navy or indefinitely delaying his writing projects, he likes engaging in anime, especially of the slice-of-life sort.
