About the Writers

In 2010, Charles Sadnick (TWWK) founded Beneath the Tangles to explore the connections between anime/manga and Christian spirituality. But he hasn’t been the only contributor to the blog—far from it. During the course of 2011, over a dozen other writers contributed guest posts, and soon afterwards, several co-bloggers joined the team, to which another five were added in January 2015. In 2016, Charles moved on to focus on family and ministry, and a leadership team under Japesland took the lead, before Charles returned the following year. Today, the following members make Beneath the Tangles possible:

Leadership:

twwk profileTWWK – Director

A little Speed Racer here, some Transformers there, and without even knowing, TWWK’s childhood was dotted with anime. But the later discovery of Digimon progressed it and when he purchased Princess Mononoke without knowing anything about Studio Ghibli, his fate was sealed. Today, you can find him hanging out with his family, serving at church, and of course, watching anime.

new - japesJapesland – Director (Retired)

JP is an aspiring businessman and linguist in the land of Japan. His tastes are always in a state of flux, but he enjoys anything with an emphasis on characters. His obsession with Japan carries into most of his interests, from books to television to video games and more. In his free time he likes to pose with bunny ears for caricatures.

The Staff:

david(1)David L. – Podcaster (Team FtK)

David loves fitness. He’s also a musician and a pastor. When he’s not working out, practicing music or doing church work, you can find him watching the latest airing anime or playing some League of Legends. Dystopian sci-fi is his favorite genre. However, maybe the slice of life antics of moe anime girls could have a place in his heart…in an alternative universe.

Emdaisy1 profile picEmdaisy – Tech Support, Writer

Emdaisy1 is a geeky computer programmer. She’s happily married and enjoying dragging her husband into the geekdom with her! Being an INFJ she tends to prefer spending her evenings home rather than out, curled up with a hot drink, her husband, and her 115-pound “lap dog”.  Her free time is spent on gaming, anime, reading, or learning whatever suits her mood that day!

Holly is studying in Texas to become a legal drug dealer and help people get their drugs (pharmacy of course). She likes to play league and league only (Any Lux players out there? Woot, woot). She also dream of being on Runningman one day and just likes games in general. She really loves to stuff herself with delicious food and contemplated on doing a mukbang, but decided not to since she knew she would not exercise to equalize everything.

josh wJoshW – Writer

Josh’s academic perambulations have taken him from the isle of English literature all the way over to the distant realm of Biblical criticism by way of philosophy and theology. When not geeking out over those subjects he can often be found geeking out over video games, science fiction, and all things animated.

matthew gMatthew G. – Podcaster (Team Anchester), Writer

Matthew G is interested in things. Many of them anime-related. He’s also trying to  develop a taste for manga as time allows. Since his start as a long-winded, scatter-brained hobby blogger two years ago, Matthew has become the swashbuckler-in-chief for Team Anchester of the TangleCast, where he can be found taking shonen far too seriously, staring squinty-eyed at modern culture, and harping on the supremacy of God. So, like, your grandpa + anime.

medieval 1Medieval Otaku – Writer

Medieval Otaku is essentially a bookworm.  His greatest loves are writing, anime, literature, history, religion, and foreign and ancient language, especially Japanese, Latin, and French.  He hopes to become a full-time novelist one day, though each day offers endless ways to distract him from this happy goal.

Where he finds the time for these, after prayer, work, and raising several children, remains something of a mystery.

stardfStardf29 – Light Novel Club Prez, Writer

Frank is known as “stardf29” on various parts of the Internet; it stands for “Star Defender 29”, which is something he came up with during his chuunibyou years. Now, when he’s not doing things for the Navy or indefinitely delaying his writing projects, he likes engaging in anime, especially of the slice-of-life sort.

Having just finished her undergraduate degree recently, Michelle is continuing her stay in Melbourne as she learns to navigate her way through adult life (permanently, she hopes). When she’s not holing herself up in her room with anime and manga, she’s either roaming the city for ramen and milk tea or thinking intensely about her current favorite series.
