First Impression: I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time

Alina works as a receptionist at the guild, an organization that serves the adventurers who explore dungeons and battle monsters. It’s a stable, safe job…but it can involve a lot of overtime, especially when adventurers encounter major obstacles like a pesky dragon boss. After a month of working late, she snaps and decides to resolve the situation herself. Meanwhile, the elite party Silver Sword (consisting of Jade the leader, Lululee the healer, Lowe the mage, and Ganz the tank) fights the aforementioned dragon and can’t put a scratch on it. But wait, a mysterious hooded figure appears and pulverizes the dragon with an oversized hammer—the mysterious figure known only as the Executioner. Thus Alina solves the dragon issue. Unfortunately, Jade sees her face and is now determined to recruit her. As public servants, guild employees are forbidden from having side gigs, which makes Alina’s Executioner activities problematic. She rejects Jade quite forcefully, but it’s clear he’s not about to give up, even though he knows perfectly well that she could flatten him like a pancake if she wanted.

So if Batman were a disgruntled female receptionist who fought dragons instead of crime… Yeah, that’s not an entirely crazy comparison. This appears to be a very silly mashup of fantasy adventure and workplace slice-of-life, with a heavy dose of comedy. That said, this was just the first episode, so while I expect plenty of humor either way, I don’t know if the show will lean more into the slice-of-life or action-adventure angle. Lest I forget, the soundtrack was excellent! My only real complaint is that there were a couple of moments of glaringly obvious CGI that stuck out awkwardly. I think this show looks like a lot of fun, and I will definitely be back next week to see Jade’s follow-up attempt to recruit the Executioner.
