Young Alec learns magic from a chap named Eldas, who warns him never to become a court magician. Flash forward several years; Alec resolves to become a court magician and push for reforms. Flash forward again several years, and he’s getting fired from being a court magician, just like his mentor was. The crown prince fires him for only casting support spells and for being a commoner. Alec reunites with Yorha, a friend from his student days, and she recruits him into her adventuring party. They warm up by fighting some bugs, and then we jump forward yet again to after the whole party has come together.
Scooped Up by an S-Rank Adventurer, is that you? The premise here is strikingly similar to one of last season’s offerings, to name just one of many similar stories. It is fine, okay, passable, adequate, tolerable, unexceptional, middling, workaday, bog-standard fantasy fare. My big complaint is essentially just that I’ve seen this story before, and there’s nothing of note to distinguish this iteration of the now-familiar premise. No doubt, Alec will go on to have dungeon-exploring adventures with his new party that properly appreciates his talents. Good for him. I won’t be continuing with this series.
