At sixteen, people receive a blessing from the animal gods that can determine their career field. An anxious Sophia attends the ritual, just not wanting to attract excessive attention, and ends up with the blessing of the gorilla god. It turns out that the gorilla blessing is extremely rare but highly desired…for combat-related jobs. Given that there aren’t any female knights, this kind of crushes Sophia’s hopes of not standing out. Now she has to take the test for admission to the royal knights. On the way to her exam, she proves too nice to be able to resist helping someone with her strength, even if it might raise a few eyebrows. She gets lost and meets a cute guy who helps her out; but upon reaching her destination she discovers he’s a knight named Louis and is the one administering the exam. Oh yeah, she tries to fail the 100m sprint test, but smashes through a wall Kool-Aid-Man-style instead. Then there are some safety accidents during the rappelling test that Sophia handles. Along the way, she attracts the attention of a couple of other cute prospective knights.

First, what on earth are the royal knights doing?! You’re supposed to be testing the examinees, not trying to kill them! Having not one but two potentially deadly equipment failures suggests to me that there are some serious problems with this outfit. That immersion-breaking issue aside, I enjoyed the episode for what it was: a humorous, fish-out-of-water, “I got a superpower I didn’t ask for, now what?” comedy with some reverse harem elements. In other words, judging by the opening episode, this story is basically a romcom. Perhaps it’ll eventually take a more serious turn, but for now it’s just lighthearted and silly. And since I found it funny, this episode earns a passing grade from me, and I’ll be back next week for more. If you’re in the mood for this sort of anime, I recommend giving it a try. Maybe you’ll go bananas over it!

I just wanted to point out that they called a bolt action rifle a musket. I know it’s just a fantasy anime but come on.
I noticed that too. How did they even mess that up?
