There’s a massive war, and the demons are winning. But in the last hours of the conflict, a suicide squad of humanity’s champions manages to defeat the mysterious Demon Lord. They all die except for Kyle, who is only mostly dead. Before he manages to kick the bucket, he finds a strange artifact that the Demon Lord had, and goes back in time four years to before the war. He interacts with his mom and childhood friends, and figures out that, yes, he definitely traveled through time. Naturally, he resolves to change the future.

That was fine. Just kind of uninspired. I’ve seen epic wars against a demon lord before, and I’ve seen stories about someone traveling into their past to try to rewrite fate and avert catastrophe. I feel pretty sure I’ve even seen something somewhere that combined those two plot points. I worry I’m being unfair to the episode, because I wouldn’t say it has any glaring flaws, but I feel pretty blah about it. The whole thing had a familiar vibe, and the few bland characters we met did little to hold my interest. The only real point of intrigue is captured by the screenshot above: why did the Demon Lord want to go back in time? I don’t see myself continuing to watch this show.
