Utage is sixteen, and she’s a huge fan of Tamon, an idol in the group F/ACE. To support her fandom, Utage works part-time doing housekeeping. And wouldn’t you know, her latest assignment ends up being…Tamon’s apartment! Shocking, I know. And it turns out he’s nothing like his “sexy and wild” onstage persona, instead being extremely shy and gloomy. Utage proceeds to give him a pep talk of sorts. How will this relationship between a fan and her oshi evolve from here?

That was ridiculous ri-die-culous, in a good way. Utage manages to be a completely bonkers fan while also being kind and supportive. Tamon’s portrayal is similarly extreme, and it’s amusing to watch as he switches between his onstage and offstage personas. Of course, I’m still traumatized by Oshi no Ko (RIP Ai) and now suffer a reflexive distrust of anime depicting the Japanese idol industry, but I think from the tone of this episode that this show is going to stay lighthearted. No one got murdered, so that’s a good start, right? Assuming Tamon’s B-side keeps going as the wacky comedy it seems to be, I can see myself sticking with it. It’s worth checking out this one, I think, if you want some laughs.

Tamon’s B-side is streaming on Crunchyroll.
