The Tangles Anime Podcast: Episode 1

The Tangles Cover 1

You’ve read our articles! You’ve followed our social media! Well, good news, because it doesn’t have to stop there… or at least not anymore!

We are ecstatic to introduce to you the newest addition to the Beneath the Tangles site, our very own podcast entitled The Tangles (available both here AND on iTunes)! As an extension of our blog, The Tangles is another branch to help us achieve our goal of creating a meeting point between anime (along with all connected forms of media) and Christian spirituality. We hope that this will help to continue to foster an open community where Christians and non-Christians alike can engage in conversation about anime, manga, and belief.

The Tangles will update on the last Thursday of every month, and will feature JP (Japes/Japesland) as host, another Beneath the Tangles writer as co-host (rotating each episode), and a special guest speaker.

For our first episode, we are thrilled to have Lauren Orsini, prolific writer and founder of Otaku Journalist, as our esteemed guest, along with Charles/TWWK as co-host. During this hour-long episode, we will be discussing our personal beliefs, current-running anime, Lauren’s new book, Otaku Journalism, and plenty more!

Feel free to stream the episode below, subscribe on iTunes, or check out our RSS feed!

Also, be sure to email us with any questions you would like included in our “Listener Mail” portion, including the name you would like stated in the podcast and your website or blog for us to share!

Oh, and if you’ve already listened, click here for the video of JP’s blue-haired antics.

  1. Very enjoyable first episode! I listened to it the whole way through, which was clear proof that it was quite interesting throughout. I’ve read some of Lauren’s e-book and it is very informative, sadly I am nowhere near as persistent as her. But you all sounded like the type of fans I’d hang out with at a con, and that’s why it was such a good listen. I look forward to hearing the next one!

  2. Great first podcast! I really enjoyed it, you guys sound like cool people (and you are cool people!) to hang out with. Hope we can all meet one day, but yeah, hope to hear more episodes, keep growing your site and in Jesus name, that many will listen and be inspired, influenced by God’s grace.

  3. This podcast was very well done. Usually, they don’t hold my interest, but I watched the whole thing all the way through. You had an especially interesting guest in Lauren Orsini. I loved hearing bits of her story.

Out of the Silent planet would make for a very interesting anime. You should read the whole series when you get the chance. Perelandra offers an interesting version of the story of Adam and Eve, and a rather shocking solution to the temptation in the Garden. On the other hand, That Hideous Strength shows a very disturbing vision of modernity. Some scenes are incredibly dark, and Lewis gets into the head of ancient Briton, Merlin, to a level I have not seen before.

    1. Thanks, that means a lot! I hope you’ll enjoy hearing from all of our different guests in the coming months!

Yeah, I really need to finish that trilogy, and actually reread the first one (it’s been many years). It’s on my list!

  4. This is rather old news by internet standards, but I finally got around to listening and thought it was great. Looking forward to seeing it grow and hearing more co-hosts and guests.

I would like to suggest that you put the email address for listener questions here in the body of the podcast blog posts. I think it would make it more practical for someone wanting to submit a question maybe a while after they’ve listened to the episode.
