12 Days of Christmas Anime, Day 2: I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying

Christmas is a fun holiday celebrated joyfully by Christians and non-Christians alike for the fun and togetherness it brings. This time of year helps us feel closer together as we come together during Christmas and New Years. We see this form of family and friendship togetherness in the Christmas customs around the world.

In the anime series I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying (a short form anime about a couple where one is a NEET and the other is a normal, career driven working woman), the characters are no different. They crave togetherness and a chance to be together with the ones they love. Kaoru and Hajime have an at times confusing, but overall incredibly loving relationship. They love and desire one another…a lot. As Christmas comes, Hajime finds out that his wife has to work. He…doesn’t take it well.

Hajime was no different. Let’s be real, he is incredibly introverted. He loves his wife and adores spending time with her; however, he needs alone time to decompress by spending time watching anime or playing video games. I…get it. Yet, even so, when his wife can’t be with him on Christmas (or the day after as we find at the end of the episode), he’s disappointed and misses her. He does not want to be alone on Christmas.

He decides to go out and find his friends. They, in turn, have an impromptu party to celebrate Christmas. They feel bad for Hajime and want to help him in his time of sorrow.

Christmas alone can be sad. We as human beings are social creatures, even those of us (like me) who are introverted. We still enjoy being around our loved ones. We still desire to be around them during special occasions. We still can be sad when we miss them during these times set aside for celebration.

We were not meant to be alone all the time. So, this Christmas…take the time to reach out to those you love. Be understanding of those who are having a hard time. Provide them the support they crave. Provide them the love they need. And if you are unable to be present…find ways to connect. Use the phone, text, or video chats to connect with these people. Show them the love that you have for them and remember, even the painfully introverted want their family during the Christmas season.

Okay…you don’t have to be this close…

Day 3: We go Christmas camping with episodes 10 and 11 of Yuru Camp tomorrow!

  1. I don’t like it when I’m alone,I have a story that happens every summer and it involves Rachel and being alone,I’ll tell you about it in my next comment

  2. Since I started going to this camp called New Life Camp (it’s a Christian camp) I’ve sometimes felt like I have no one to talk to.One of those people who didn’t talk to me was Rachel ,even when we weren’t as close because that was when we were starting to get to know each other.Of course I felt like I had no one to talk to last year and this year.Hopefully I won’t feel alone next summer.

    1. It’s definitely hard when we’re alone. Although believers know that Christ is with us, we still sometimes feel that sense of alienation. I hope though that in general, you’re surrounded by friends and family that help you feel loved.
