First Impression: The Devil Is a Part-Timer! Season 2

An intro with awesome music reminds us of the backstory: Demon King Satan tried to conquer the fantasy world of Ente Isla, was defeated by the hero Emilia, and fled through a portal to another world—ours. In the present, a mysterious woman enters the demon king’s abandoned castle to…extract a bubble of light from a potted plant? Amid a hot summer, Maou works his fast food job, while Alciel tries to teach Lucifer housekeeping. A wild cockroach appears! After some drama, it’s destroyed (as all cockroaches deserve to be). Then a large apple appears from a dimensional gateway and transforms into a little girl. She introduces herself as Alas Ramus, and identifies Maou and Emilia as her father and mother. Cue melodramatic reactions.

Much like the Spanish Inquisition, no one expected this followup to a reverse-isekai comedy that first aired about a million years ago (in 2013, to be exact). It’s a very silly story that mixes fantasy and modern life and plays with tropes in all sorts of ways. The original season was hilarious, and it looks like the sequel will be just as entertaining. If the premise of a fantasy demon lord moving to Tokyo to flip burgers for a living sounds at all amusing, you should check out this zany show (though, as per usual, watch the first season first).

The Devil Is a Part-Timer! Season 2 is streaming on Crunchyroll.
