First Impression: I’m the Villainess so I’m Taming the Final Boss

The first episode introduces our heroine, Aileen, who is now living her second life as the villainess in an otome game. Her fiancé has just broken off their engagement and Aileen quickly realizes that if she doesn’t do something soon, her fate will surely play out as in the game and she will end up dying in potentially bizarre ways thanks to the “villain”, Demon King Claude. Taking matters into her own hands, she decides that the best course of action is to marry Claude and thereby ensure she can continue to live her new life.

I had no idea that the first episode of I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss! was premiering today, but when I found out I squealed with excitement! The manga has been in my top five favorite manga series this year and so I had very high expectations with regard to the anime. I was overjoyed seeing the trailer before the anime premiered as it captured all the elements I love about this series. This continued to be true of the first few minutes of the anime as well, and I was completely ecstatic in how the voice actors matched the voices in my head and sounded absolutely perfect! However, while my excitement continued throughout the entire episode, I was slightly disappointed in how rushed it felt. All the key moments I loved in the manga (minus one) are still there and they were absolutely wonderful to see on screen! But the fast pace of the anime feels slightly jarring. That said, I will gladly take the slight rushing in exchange for getting to see the entire manga series animated! Speaking of which, I adored everything about the animation! It captured the humor of the series as well as those smaller moments when Aileen is caught off guard by Claude’s actions (with blushing as a result). Also, the opening song is amazing and I absolutely love it! I will be adding it to my playlist of anime songs for sure!

I will definitely be continuing the series because my heart was as captivated by the series on screen as on the page! I must see more of all these characters and I am looking forward to also seeing characters I know we will meet soon! If you’re a fan of villainess isekai, this is one I definitely recommend! While it might feel a little fast-paced for fans of the original series, it is no less engaging to see Aileen’s antics on screen! I am looking forward to next week’s episode!

I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss is streaming on CrunchyRoll.

  1. What? The first episode is out already?! I thought it was premiering in October. Thank you for the heads up, I’ve been waiting for this series! I read the manga and it was awesome! So funny!

    1. I didn’t know either until a friend tagged me on Twitter I think Thursday night and was like WHAT?! I was so shocked! I knew it was coming out this season, but I thought it wasn’t until October! And YAY that you enjoyed the manga too!! It is such a great series! I really hope you enjoy the first episode!!

  2. The breakneck pacing only matches the LN though – which gets 5 animé seasons of plot into one volume, to the point where it really needs to be read quite carefully or you will miss something. However Aileen is such a delighful mix of smart and naïve that I wouldn’t mind if they slowed it down quite a bit, just to make it last longer. To do that they would have to actually write more stuff to go into each episode I guess, and it would – technically – be filler so I expect LN1 to be this season’s plot. Fingers crossed the shenanigans translates faithfully 🙂
