First Impression: The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague

Fuyutsuki is starting her first day at a new job, and her thoughts are consumed with questions as to whether she will be just as “stoic” in her new role as she was in school, with her tendency to express little emotion. While she is on her way to work, she comes across a man standing beneath a cherry blossom tree who seems to be trapped in ice from the knees down. When she asks if he is okay, he introduces himself as Himuro and explains that because he is a descendant of the Snow Woman of Japanese folklore, his emotions come out in the way of ice. He’s starting a new job today and is quite nervous, hence his being half frozen. Being the kind person Fuyutsuki is, she helps him in his predicament (no spoilers as to how though!) and after parting ways, they are soon surprised to find that they both work for the same company and will be working in the same department! So begins the everyday office lives of Himuro reacting to Fuytuski’s kindness with ice and snowmen!

If there was one word to describe The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague, it’s “soft.” From the opening scene to the closing scene, there is a soft overtone to this new office romcom. As an avid fan of the manga (which is thankfully available through Comikey!) I had very high expectations for this, my most anticipated anime of the season. I fell head over heels for these characters after reading the manga and only more so after this first episode because it was everything I had hoped it would be! It is a very faithful adaptation, which is wonderful as a manga reader. Himuro is the ultimate cinnamon roll, and I laughed and smiled every time he blushed with his “snow storms” in the office and his little snowmen popping out everywhere, hitting his coworker’s head. Ha! When it comes to the voice acting, it is perfection! I was already excited after hearing them in the trailer, and after watching this first episode I can confirm that both voice actors capture the personalities of the main characters so well. They both have lower-pitched voices that really channel the “chill” aspect of the series, making it very relaxing to watch. The opening and closing songs are fantastic and I already plan to look them both up on music platforms so I can listen to them regularly! Overall, this opening episode did not disappoint and I’m already looking forward to next week’s episode! If you are looking for a calming romantic story with some “cold” humor woven in, this series is the one! I highly recommend watching!
