First Impression: A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring

Takumi Kayano is a regular 28-year-old guy who suddenly gets warped to another world. The first person he sees there calls himself a god, and tells Takumi that he accidentally killed him. The god’s explanation for how it happened is hard to follow, but Takumi doesn’t really seem to mind that too much. After all, he now has a new life as an adventurer. While he’s hunting some monsters there, he stumbles across two lost kids, who appear to be twins. They don’t say a word, but our protagonist can tell that they need someone to take care of them. Or do they…? Because, in the next scene, they defeat huge monsters in a matter of seconds, acting like it’s child’s play. Well, strong or not, he can’t just leave these five-year-olds by themselves, so he takes them to the nearest city. Once he’s there, he slowly starts to become part of the community, while the children get used to human civilization for the first time.

The soundtrack is mediocre, and I wasn’t impressed by the animation in this first episode. It makes sense that the action is not very intense, because the anime centers around lighthearted comedy. But I didn’t really find the comedy very good either. The art style is very bland as well: I wouldn’t be able to tell the main character apart from twenty other black-haired protagonists. In terms of characters, the children felt more like dogs than children. It seems like they’re only there to be cute and funny, void of any personality. So what does that leave us with? Not a very impressive product, but I will say the anime is relaxing at least. I’ve seen low-conflict anime like this pop up more often recently, and I understand the appeal. But I think that even a lighthearted show needs at least a little bit of depth to keep the viewer engaged. If you’re looking for a fun adventure show, I would say there are many better options out there. I won’t be continuing this anime.
