First Impression: Headhunted to Another World: From Salaryman to Big Four!

Uchimura Dennosuke was living the life of a lowly salaryman, constantly passed up for promotions, his work being ignored by the higher-ups, and even getting transferred overseas multiple times. However, someone else has been observing his work and wants his talents, and that someone is none other than the Demon Lord of another world! This Demon Lord summons Uchimura to his world and immediately appoints him as one of his Four Generals, letting him know his value, though his bosses could not see it. The other three generals doubt that an ordinary human can do anything in the cutthroat world of demons and demi-humans that make up the Demon Army. Hence, the Demon Lord appoints Uchimura a trial task: complete an alliance pact with the chief of the Minotaur Army. With no additional powers to speak of, Uchimura feels like he is way over his head, but at the same time, this is the first time his boss values him, so maybe he can try to live up to expectations.

Looking up “Demon Lord Interview Questions” on YouTube probably won’t help much here.

This show combines two popular anime sub-genres: isekai and working-in-a-company-that-treats-its-workers-well. We need a better name for the latter sub-genre, but it is an increasingly common storyline that, like isekai, provides an escape for many people for whom decent working conditions are just a fantasy. Putting the two together feels very natural, and as a bonus, you can insert whatever joke you want here about a Demon Lord being more humane than human corporate bosses. Overall, the storyline is basic and fulfills its purpose of demonstrating how Uchimura’s experience in our world’s workforce can help with the aspects of managing a demon army that do not involve violence while showing how Uchimura himself feels happier to be working under the Demon Lord. While all of this is enjoyable enough, the main things that catch my interest for future episodes are the internal conflict between demons and demi-humans, the question of what the army is fighting for, and of course, the burgeoning romance with the fiery redhead. I cannot yet hire this show for a spot on my watchlist, but it at least passes the first interview.

Also included: a cloaked beastgirl and a biblically accurate sylph outfit.
