The Kingdom of Science is back and two of its leaders are at loggerheads! If you’ll recall, the intrepid crew of the Perseus is on its way to America to collect materials to fuel a rocket ship for a flight to the Moon and confrontation with the mysterious Why Man. Yes, dear readers, this show is going to go from zero to Space Brothers pretty freaking fast. However, Senku and Ryusui are having a dispute about how to get there. Senku argues that the crew must reach the U.S. of A. as quickly as possible, in 40 days, otherwise, they won’t get there in time to harvest the materials needed to build and fuel their spacecraft and make the precious revival fluid needed to restore humanity from its stony slumber. However, our sea captain Ryusui argues that this course would take a lot of effort and strain the crew; he insists on taking a different course that would take 70 days. Both are right, both are stubborn, both are headstrong. What to do? Well of course…they play a winner-take-all game of poker! Wait, POKER!? The fate of humanity is being determined by poker!? Meh, it could be worse. GET EXCITED AND CUE THE SHENANAGINS!

Brand new season, same old awesomeness. Yes, my friends, Dr. Stone has returned to us as we enter the final leg of this amazing journey. And in true fashion, this new episode pulls double duty both as a setup for the adventures ahead AND as a refresher for people who may need a reminder of where this cast of intrepid travelers are at this point in the narrative. This is something that Dr. Stone has always done BRILLIANTLY. Another thing this show does well is how it takes the most basic of basic concepts like a card game and makes them both interesting and relevant! If you break it down, this premiere episode didn’t have much of anything happening—just a poker game on a ship. But in under 30 minutes, this episode made a poker game interesting and scientific, and also tied in the “recap” gimmick, while at the same time offering up some character development! That’s exceptional writing, boys and girls, and something that Dr. Stone does very well. Speaking of development, this being a series created by Boichi, we are quickly reminded of his previous works when you look at most of the female cast. The fanservice is heavy with this one as per usual (was it REALLY necessary to put Kohaku in a low-cut gold gown?), but if I have to say anything, at least this show tries to be an equal opportunity with it. We do get more than our share of ripply bulging muscles. Boichi is gonna Boichi.

Also, can we talk about this opening title sequence? Just when I thought nothing could top “Good Morning World” from the first season, along comes “CASANOVA POSSE” from ALI. If that name sounds familiar, he’s the artist who gave us the prodigiously awesome “Wildside” from the first season of Beastars. This time, we get an upbeat, optimistic BOP that I honestly can’t wait to blast from my Jeep and/or other work vehicle! I also love the visuals which culminate in our crew of science getting their respective grooves on. TOHO Animation really loves making our characters rock out with their socks out it seems, even though nobody in this show wears socks. The crying shame is that if this show ever gets aired on Toonami, we’ll only get to see the full version ONCE and then it’ll be cut to pieces for subsequent viewings. I’m still miffed at what they did to the OP last season. But as usual, I digress. The ending sequence, “Rolling Stone” by BRIEMEN, is a nice wind-down and contrasts well with the hype light show of the OP.

Finally, we got another same-day dub, my dudes, and I’m here to tell you, that this crew sounds just as awesome as they did the first day. Aaron Dismuke slips back into the role of Senku as easily as Senku slips on his moccasins. I also have to do some gentle ribbing at Clifford Chapman, the voice of Ryusui. Every so often, he’ll let the voice slip a bit and go into Bakugo from My Hero Academia. It’s not bad, but it is very funny thinking that Bakugo is a member of the Kingdom of Science. Let’s be real, knowing how short-tempered he is, he wouldn’t last a day with this crew.

So where does that leave us with Dr. Stone: Future Science? Well plain and simple, if you’ve ridden with the crew for this long, you owe it to yourself to see it through! Trust me, when certain characters get introduced, and when certain events and revelations come to light, you will NOT be disappointed. This voyage to America is gonna be shot through with excellent stories, prodigious character development, and new characters that will make the entire journey so enjoyable you just can’t help but…GET EXCITED.
