First Impression: DAN DA DAN Season 2

What’s scarier than aliens and ghouls? Humans, of course—specifically the kind who will destroy the vulnerable to gain and maintain power. In Jiji’s village, that’s the Kito family, a ghoulish clan who fears nothing (except maybe the Chamber of Commerce). They run the town that Jiji lives in, and have mixed themselves up with Jiji (who lives in a house they own), Okarun, and Momo, who discovers that the men in their family are as gross and vile as can be. But there are even greater concerns than one horrible family in the form of a Tsuchinoko—no, a Great Serpent Lord—no…a Kuragari?! This might be more than even a group of overpowered kids can overcome!

Dandadan (DAN DA DAN) is back! And man, what a perfect first episode to start the season! New arc. New characters. New enemies. A new situation concluding episode one that seems impossible for our young heroes to navigate through—all handled with the creative and humorous flair that Science Saru provides. The Kito Family is a perfect new set of villains, a tropey group that takes the worst of middle-aged men and elderly women in Japanese society and imbues them with supernaturally tinged powers and the most awful instincts. And yet, this episode doesn’t dwell too much on their grossness; it’s simply a blast because of our precious trio + Turbo Granny. SO MUCH FUN. Oh, and the opening and endings are a match for season one’s! The OP leans heavily into the more ghoulish aspects of the show, while the ED is a BOP, featuring cute dancing and animation sequences. And…I SEE HIM! Yes!

Yep, I don’t know if I could be more excited for a second season of a series. What a show!

DAN DA DAN Season 2 can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
