Taro Sakomoto can’t catch a break. Every time he defeats another overly ambitious assassin, two more are ready to challenge him next. Right now, the main threat is a group of four escaped death row prisoners. They’ve been given a list with targets, who include Sakamoto and friends. He’s not happy about this list, especially because it has him as a mere B+ rank according to some unknown criteria. Shin and Lu rank even lower, which makes them “easy” targets for these extremely dangerous fugitives. On top of that, the escaped criminals don’t exactly shy away from going after family members, which would be more devastating for Sakamoto than any sneak attack on himself. Because of this, Sakamoto chooses to go on the offensive, aiming to track them down before they ambush him or his people. Will he find them before they can get their hands on his loved ones?

The new cour of Sakamoto Days comes back strong with a well-animated, stylish new opening. The first half of the episode is a bit slow, but that’s fine, because I enjoyed seeing all the characters again. Each side character seems to have a solid place in the story, which I think is one of the anime’s strong points. I also enjoy the action scenes, especially when we see Sakamoto bring out the special skills of the others, such as Shin’s mind-reading ability. However, this episode doesn’t have any of that. It has something better. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, so all I’ll say is that the twist in this episode will make the action a lot more interesting moving forward! This has only made me more confident that this series is worth continuing. The first season was my go-to comfort anime back in the winter, and I will continue watching this one weekly.
