What’s that aroma in the air? Ah, it’s delicious gyoza! Mukohda is cooking up yet another yummy dish for his familiars—the Fenrir named Fel, and the slime, Sui. But the smell also attracts another animal, a miniature dragon known as a pixie dragon. And before he knows it, Mukohda has added another familiar to his gang, naming the cute and spunky creature Dora-chan. Now with three familiars in tow, Mukohda enters the city of Krehl, where he is given a quest and information about his next destination, Dolan, where he hopes to drop off the earth dragon remains from a previous encounter (but is also likely to step into a bit of trouble).

One of the very best “feel-good” anime of recent years has returned! And Campire Cooking doesn’t waste much time before it shows viewers what we’re all waiting to see—variations of delicious Japanese food. The gyoza looks scrumptious—no shock at all that it would attract the latest adorable addition to the crew in the form of Dora-chan. But continuing the trend from season one, this pixie dragon is no pushover—except when it comes to friendship and food! I love that the relationships in the series are so warm; they feel like a perfect extension of the scrumptious meals that Mukohda prepares, a picture of family and friendship borne of his desire to feed them yummy food. While there is a story here, and the end of episode one hints at some conflict ahead*, the stars remain the cute familiars and the MAPPA-animated feasts; that’s what we’re tuning in for and what the studio once again is delivering in season two.

Season two of Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
*After the cute, rap-style ED, make sure to watch “Second Serving,” the short endcap to the episode.
