The Straw Hat Pirates of One Piece are always on the run or being attacked for the bounties on their heads. Not only that, but they’ve stolen countless treasures. Nami, in particular, has a passion for impulsively stealing beautiful jewelry, which in the beginning of this episode is being stolen from her by another group of pirates. They are quickly defeated by Luffy and Sanji, but Nami, in the heat of the battle, trips on her heel, and the other pirates get away with a bag of her possessions. She goes back to the store to return her shoes, and while she is explaining they hurt her feet and aren’t made for fighting as advertised, the designer Lebno Listchaque himself arrives. He offers to make her a new pair if she will walk them down the runway of a fashion show. Nami agrees, only because she notices he is wearing the very jewelry that was stolen from her. The receptionist handling Nami’s complaint about the shoes also happens to be the other owner of the store and a shoe designer. She notices the issue with the original blue heels that hurt Nami’s feet in the fight and asks if she can fix them. Though she’s humble, her talent is remarkable, and Nami is blown away by how perfectly the shoes fit. Meanwhile, Lebno Listchaque, the suave blonde thief, has decorated an enormous chandelier full of stolen jewelry for the runway, to display his grandness to the public. Nami, along with fellow Straw Hat Nico Robin, decides to steal it all. Thus, everything comes down to a showdown of whose shoes are better in a fight!
The two female pirates of One Piece have their own series! This is episode 1, but I’m not familiar with the backstory of the miniseries. The animation of this episode was excellent! I had a hard time selecting screenshots because there were so many I wanted to take. I’m glad the episode was not full of fan service; on the contrary, it was very classy and feminine. I’m a guy, so heels being the heart of the story isn’t really my thing, but I’ve been married over a decade, so I understand how important shoes can be to a woman. In any case, I did enjoy it, and it was nice to see a different side of One Piece, drawn in a completely new style. It looks like each scene was hand-drawn, but it still keeps the ridiculousness of the original series. If you’re a One Piece fan, I definitely recommend checking this one out. I want to keep watching to see where this goes.
