Finally, it looks like FUNimation is going to release Haibane Renmei! Previously issued by Geneon, the series has been out of print, though the property was picked up by FUNimation in 2010. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a new release by the company (this writer was blessed to receive the DVDs as a gift).
Recently, FUNimation opened a page for the series, which includes streaming video for the first two episodes for subscribers. It also features a new trailer, which ends with this image captured by a member of the Fandom Post forums:
It’s wonderful to see the folks at FUNimation streaming this classic and, more importantly, releasing it on DVD. Now, let’s see if everyone put their cash where their mouths are and shell out what I’m sure will be a reasonable price for this amazing series!
This is good news. But will it be remastered, and will there be a blu-ray edition?
No details yet – nothing I can find. But seeing as this property isn’t super popular, I wouldn’t hold out too much hope.
That’s a shame. I already have the DVDs (as I think you may have noticed 🙂 ), but an upgrade would have been nice.
As for Haibane Renmei not being super popular, that’s just another shame. 🙁
This is the best news I’ve heard all week. Undoubtedly one of my all time favourites and even more important because I’ve been missing Disk 3 since it ran out of print! Finally be able to complete my collection for it. I wouldn’t even mind paying an unreasonable price for HR.
I think a lot of people are in your shoes – ready to complete their collections.
I got one word: DO WANT.
OK, that was two words. 😀
I think it’s worth getting superfluous with this news. 😛
*Dances with Joy* Awesome!!!!
I know a lot of CAA-ers have been looking forward to this day!
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!
I recently finished collecting the entire series on used DVDs. So excited to get new!!!!!!!!
I meant to say, I am excited by the oppertunity to purchase the series new.
It should also be cheaper.
Absolutely – FUNimation does a good job, I think, of releasing entire series in these “classic” or “SAVE” editions at a good price.
YES! YES! YES! THANK YOU FUNIMATION! You know what, I may just repurchase it through them, just in case my Geneon copy goes bust.
I bet there are a number of people with the Geneon edition who are thinking of purchasing this one, too.
Will there be any Region 2 copies is my question.
Good question…though I think that FUNi probably only has release rights for region 1.
That is good news they are rereleasing it since it’s a great show and I reviewed it as part of the Secret Santa project back in 2010. It had a lot of great moments with the setting and drama, which made it a enjoyable experience.
Admittedly, I already own it, so I’m merely excited because it’s a series that seriously deserves a re-release. I’m glad that it’s getting one!
Reblogged this on Pirates of the Burley Griffin and commented:
This is good news. Hopefully it will herald a local re-release by Madman.
No sign of a remastered bluray however.
