I’ve been an anime fan for a long time now. While I watched some series religiously before becoming a full-fledged anime fan (and can predate even that with childhood memories of Voltron and Speed Racer), everything came together around 2001 and 2002 with Toonami, and especially airings of Tenchi Muyo! and Cardcaptor Sakura. With the latter being revived with new episodes based on the Clear Card manga arc, I decided it would be a good time to revisit the series, particularly since I never really viewed it the “right way” at all.
Just two episodes in, one thing I’m noticing is the disparate vision of my memories of the series and what I’m watching now. I of course watched the much-derided Ocean Studios version, and though it may not be as strong a series (some fans would say this is an understatement), it’s full of nostalgia for me. Now I’m watching Cardcaptor Sakura instead of Cardcaptors, and even when I tune into the dub track, the voices are different as well.
Either way, even if it isn’t “the same,” I’m looking forward to going through the series. And I hope to bring you all along for the ride as I slowly make my way through – hopefully in time to conclude the 70 episodes (and movies, too?) before the new series hits.
But knowing how long I take to finish series, I may need some help from clow cards to make in on time. -_-‘

I liked the series when it showed on Kids WB! (the Ocean Studios one). But it was till 2-3 years ago that I saw the original series on Crunchyroll, and I found it very enjoyable. And finished watching the 2 movies afterward. This is one of my favorite magical girl animes.
Good to hear! To be honest, I’m looking forward most to watching the second film. I’ve seen clips from it so many times, it’ll be good to watch the movie in it’s entirety!
The dub version cut out a lot of the more boring stuff in the original, so when you watch the original, you’re going to notice that it drags at times. I hate to say it, but they kind of knew what they were doing when they chopped it up.
I thought the original was better, and I believe I liked those “boring stuff.” And also the atrocious dub (with the major changes) also changed the relationships of quite a few characters that doesn’t make sense.
I used to watch Cardcaptors too. I didn’t enjoy the dub….but well, most dubs weren’t that great back then.
I saw that trailer too..somewhere. Is it just an OVA? Or a full series?

Wow awesome! I was reading at Anime News Network, they mentioned an OVA so I was confused. I am definitely watching that…nostalgia for the WIN!
I think an OVA was just released that’s bridging the old series and the upcoming one.
