Dr. Stone starts off like most high school anime do. There are a group of students who are poking fun at each other, especially Taiju who is nervous to confess his love to Yuzuriha while his friend Senku bets he won’t have the guts to do it. He walks up to her, ready to say what’s on his heart but he freezes up. Nothing new to see here, until a green light covers the entire Earth and turns every human (and bird!) into stone wherever they are.
The first person to awaken is Taiju, the love-struck boy who thought about Yuzuriha the whole time until his stone shell broke apart on its own. He finds that everywhere around him is covered by nature and people are still lifeless stone statues. Senku, a super smart fellow classmate of his who loves science, leaves him a message and they meet up. After discussing how they will survive in this stone age sort of speak world, Senku continues experimenting on how to reverse humanity’s predicament. At the end of the episode, they hit a breakthrough and hope begins to be restored.
I had kept my eye on this anime since Crunchyroll was hyping it so much. The animation looks great, and I liked that episode one gets straight to the point. I like Senku, as he’s a scientific genius and uses his intellect to solve problems which are interesting to see. I am interested in knowing the mysteries behind what happened, and hopefully to see new characters fleshed out as the anime continues. When they create food or drink it’s fun to see the process behind it, so the viewer learns something at the same time.
Personally, I’ll be looking forward to this one every week and might have to catch up on the manga so I don’t have to wait too long!
