We have two more light novels for discussion in the coming two months! As before, we have one new light novel series and one series we have covered before that we are covering the next volume of. I’m sure you’re wondering what those novels are, so let’s not waste any more time and announce them!
March 2020: The World’s Least Interesting Master Swordsman, Vol. 1
If you were to be isekai’d with your choice of cheat powers, what would you do? Would you ask for superhuman physical and magical capabilities and then gather a harem to show off your power? Or would you just get immortality, and then spend a couple centuries in sword training until no one can defeat you? Presenting The World’s Least Interesting Master Swordsman, a unique take on the usual isekai formula with a different look at what it means to be the strongest!
J-Novel Club describes Volume 1 as follows:
Sansui Shirokuro is a young guy with an old man’s name, which ends up landing him in tragic circumstances when God snuffs out his life candle after mistaking him for a geezer whose time has passed. Now reincarnated into a fantasy world, Sansui is one of the Immortals, capable of immense power… as long as he’s willing to put centuries of work into achieving it. One day, after five hundred years of swinging his sword, his monotonous existence is upended entirely by the appearance of a little baby. His master sends him out into the world to raise the child, and it’s there that he meets a haughty young noblewoman and her tomboyish bodyguard. His fighting style may be bland and unpretentious, but the fast-paced mortal world is about to find out just how good even the most hopeless swordsman can get with half a millennium of practice behind him!
April 2020: Spice & Wolf, Vol. 2
For our continuing series, how about we go back to the very first title that the Light Novel Club covered? That’s right, we have a bit of a blast to the past with Spice and Wolf, Volume 2! One of the most popular “business relationships” in anime and light novels is back in the spotlight as Lawrence and Holo take on… shepherding?
Yen Press describes Volume 2 as follows:
Following his good fortune in Pazzio, Lawrence is confident that he is on the path to realizing his dream of becoming a town merchant. One ill-informed business decision, though, leaves him teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and ruin! With no assets to his name – other than the cunning of his fetching traveling companion, Holo the Wisewolf – Lawrence may need to resort to illicit means to put his affairs in order. With all of the merchant’s plans hinging on one beautiful young shepherdess – for whose vocation Holo holds no affection – Lawrence’s prospects, both personal and professional, are looking grim!
