First Impression: Assault Lily Bouquet

Cute girls…using weapons powered by magical bloodsucking rings, fighting evil robots? Well, we did it, team. This is a thing nowlet’s go home. Assault Lily: Bouquet appears to be a show about cute high school girls called “Lilies” battling mysterious wild robots called “Huge.” Protagonist Riri is just starting to attend an academy for Lilies (and yes, there’s like six gags about how “Riri” and “Lily” sound the same in Japanese). Riri meets the privileged rich girl who becomes weirdly obsessed with her, the fellow underachiever admitted from the waitlist just like she is, and the jaded senpai who once saved her from small Huge a couple years ago.

The show is fine. It reminded me of Katana Maidens ~ Tojo no Miko except with robots instead of demons (#plottwist #innovation). I found Katana Maidens thoroughly mediocre, and Assault Lily Bouquet fills me with an expectation for something similarly bland, except perhaps with even more emphasis on romance between high school girls. I wouldn’t exactly advise anyone to avoid this show, but I also can’t especially recommend it, unless the premise just really tickles your fancy.
