First Impression: Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear -Punch!

Yuna is back in her superpowered bear pajamas, continuing to help the orphanage kids run a cafe, and helping out with various monster issues that crop up. This time around, a horde of orcs have appeared by a tree full of bees, preventing people from harvesting honey. To make matters worse, the orcs are threatening an actual bear family! Naturally, Yuna will not stand for this, and quickly takes care of the orcs. Later on, she gets summoned back to the royal castle, where she is requested to help guard the students of the royal academy as they make a trip outside. It might be a bit much for a former shut-in like Yuna to associate with people her age, but she accepts the task nonetheless.

Yes, there are real bears in this world, too.

The first season of Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear was a nice, laid-back isekai with no real objectionable content and just a whole lot of sweetness. Perhaps it’s only fitting that the first episode of the second season is all about protecting the honey supply for some delicious honey-drenched bear pancakes. All things considered, not too much of note really happens in this episode; it just continues the tone set in the last season as Yuna and her pet bears help out the kids and people around them. If you enjoyed the previous season, this season picks up right where things were left off, which is not a bad thing. The setup of some new interactions for Yuna in later episodes means the story will be moving forward as well. Overall, this is a solid start to the new season, and now I just have to bear the wait for new episodes.

Both seasons of Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear are streaming on Crunchyroll.

  1. I’ve heard so many good things about this series, I really need to try it! When the first season came out, I skipped this one because I thought it was an anime for little kids. I had no idea that it was an isekai or that it had a fully developed story. I might be kind of late to the train, but I’m totally need to hop on board!
