Midori Akita isn’t exactly living her best life. At age 27, after another miserable day of work, she drops dead—literally. But all is not lost because Midori is given a deal by God; he will resurrect her if she’s willing to help him out in the land of Asdyllon, where humans are persecuting creatures. And he’ll give her one power! Midori, who will be reborn as the baby Nefertime Osfe (or Neema) chooses what she really wants and needs: the ability to pet fluffy things! And so, Neema is reborn as the daughter of a duke and part of a loving family in the Kingdom of Gache. At age three, she visits the royal estate where she runs into the sky tiger, Lars, as well as the royal prince who seems to take a shine to her. But none of that matters to Neema; she just cares about the cuddly animals, including a not-so-fluffy dragon!

What a lovely start to the anime season! I was able to preview Fluffy Paradise ahead of its streaming premiere at Anime Frontier, where episode one was presented by Crunchyroll. The video introduction started with voice actress Ai Kakumi (Neema) bursting with a cheerful energy that likewise runs through this first episode. After some guffawing from the convention crowd at the very quick isekai death that begins the episode, they became entranced with this delightful opening to the show (as did I). If you want some cute in your diet, Fully Paradise is certainly something you should consume. But I’m interested because the show seems to be working toward balancing the fluffy with danger in what Ai Kakumi calls a “delightful tension.” It has the feel of a villainess isekai in that way, and I think fans of those series will also be interested in this one. I may or may not continue with it, but I have to admit that a cute-ish cliffhanger to episode one has me anticipating the second episode, as did the lovely ED featuring yarn art. So I’m likely to at least tune in to see what happens next; thankfully you won’t have to wait nearly as long as me!

Fluffy Paradise is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
