First Impression: Plus-Sized Elf

Tomoatsu Naoe has an interesting new client at the health spa he works for. For starters, she’s a little on the plump side as she has a habit of grubbing on unhealthy foods. For another, she’s an actual elf. Unfortunately, she cannot return home through a dimensional portal due to her newly acquired weight being different from when she arrived. So after a bit of convincing, Naoe puts his elfin client, Elfuda, through a rigorous exercise regimen to help her shed the pounds so she can get back home. However, the tempting cuisines of the human world threaten to derail all her progress! Can Elfuda slim down enough to get back home?

This is NOT the way I wanted to spend my weekend guys. I just wanted to relax after a hard week of work and watch some decent anime premieres…maybe even write some insightful commentary. But along comes Plus-Sized Elf with its absurd fanservice and mediocre plot and says “Hold my french fries.” This show is the animated version of a pile of Snickers; absolute junk food with no redeeming nutritional value. Yeah, it might scratch an itch for someone, but dearest gentle reader, that someone ain’t me. Two minutes and thirty seconds into this show, our title character pulls off her shirt revealing her breasts for all to see. Why? Because that’s all this show has going for it: fanservice and fetish pandering. This show is out there for shock value and titillation and has more than earned its TV-MA rating. It comes in, flashes some boobs, gives plenty of fanservice shots, and leaves. It’s not even a full-length episode, just barely clocking over eleven minutes with the ending title sequence. And speaking of the ending title—that was a mess. An absolute MESS.

At this point, I would typically ask where that leaves us with a show, but honestly, I don’t think much more needs to be said. I’m passing this one like a Houston driver on the freeway during rush hour. Plus-Sized Elf is NOT worth your time. Even if I were to somehow ignore all the over-the-top ecchi fanservice in this one and all the fetish moments, there is absolutely nothing endearing or interesting about watching a fat elf try to lose weight. Absolutely nothing. This show simply seems to ride on its fetish and fanservice to be successful. Why HiDive decided to pick up this one is beyond me.

Plus-Sized Elf is available for streaming on HiDive. Please note that this show is rated TV-MA.
