The third season of tomfoolery kicks off with the Rentaro Family being the subject of a candid interview TV show where they’re each asked what recent event makes them feel that their boyfriend cherishes them. Of course, this being the Rentaro Family, where they all share one dude, they all go into explanations about what our boy Rentaro Aijo did for them, each girl giving a crazier yet adorable moment where our boy showed up and showed out. Our roving reporter simply can’t believe that such a devoted—and possibly mentally questionable—guy exists! Of course, when Rentaro emerges from the restroom, he speaks glowingly about each one of his girls. But when our reporter calls our girls “monsters,” Rentaro shuts the whole thing down! One thing you’re NOT gonna do is talk badly about his girlfriends…even if some of them are mentally questionable. ROLL CREDITS!

We then meet back up with Rentaro, who is watching his little cousin Chiyo while his uncle is away. Surely…SURELY there won’t be any cracks in love, right? RIGHT?! This is his cousin! However, it seems as though the universe really wants these two to be together, as they soon find themselves in each other’s arms. What on earth is going on here? Is this show REALLY going to go this route with cousin love? Or is there an outside influence acting on these two? Cue the never-ending romantic shenanigans!

You think it’s done? It’s not done; that’s the whole point. IT’S NEVER DONE!! Yes, we’re back with a third season of what has to be one of the most shameless harem anime in known history, and here I am writing about it! This show seems to stick to the same formula of wacky shenanigans, 4th-wall obliteration, comically stereotypical personality tropes, with a light sprinkling of heart and introspection. Heck, it worked so far; why not keep it up? The fact that we don’t get the OP until almost 11 minutes in because the director was stalling for time, or the fact that Rentaro questions whether the production committee will ACTUALLY make one of his girlfriends his cousin, shows that this show still stays true to its “Don’t think too hard about it—just enjoy the ride” atmosphere. Rentaro is falling for his actual cousin, even after it was revealed that the whole thing was his uncle’s scheme? “Meh, don’t think too hard about it!” But we have to think about it, show! It’s his FREAKING COUSIN! Good grief…

So where does that leave us with Season 3 of The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You? In for a penny, in for a pound. If you’ve seen the other two seasons and enjoyed them, then heck, keep going with it! The same shenanigans that came with the first two seasons are in this one, for better or worse. Personally, I’ll sporadically keep up with this one just like the previous seasons, if for no other reason than to check out the English dub that we’re no doubt getting and to see how they approach our new American character! This is gonna be interesting…
