First Impression: The World’s Strongest Rearguard

Atobe Arihito and his coworkers die in a bus accident, and he reincarnates in a fantasy world. Actually, it seems like everybody on the bus (such as his former boss, Igarashi) reincarnates. They are in a nation of Seekers, those who explore labyrinths, and the people of the fantasy world are used to getting reincarnators like this. When signing up for a class, Atobe writes down “Rearguard” meaning the general role, thinking the magic doohickey will give him the class he’s best suited for that can serve as a party’s rearguard. Instead, he receives a previously unheard class literally called “Rearguard.” Later at the mercenary guild, he parties up with a masked demihuman slave girl named Theresia. They venture into a labyrinth and Atobe starts to the get hang of his skills.

There’s not much to see here—just more passable but utterly unremarkable fantasy fare. It’s kind of interesting that the fantasy world seems used to receiving reincarnators in significant numbers, but otherwise nothing really stands out about this episode. If the OP is anything to go by, Atobe will eventually assemble a full party of cute girls—as one does in this sort of story—and they will have run-of-the-mill fantasy adventures. You can watch this if you’re bored, and it’ll probably be a tolerable way to pass the time, or you can skip this and miss absolutely nothing.
