We’ve reached the end of Something Genuine Season 2!
For our final conversation, we’re joined by Cristina Vee and Yussef Benelbar, the English voices of Sitara and Mohammed, respectively, in Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia, in a conversation recorded during a Crunchyroll press junket.
Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia is a historical coming-of-age story set during the rise of the Mongol Empire, following Sitara as she navigates loss, survival, education, and an entirely transformed world. It is a fantastic series; it’s setting and the cultures it betrays are unique, as is the animation style that the always inventive Science SARU employs.
In our interview, Christina and Yussef talk about their connections to their characters, pursuing a creative career, and what it means to bring pieces of their own backgrounds and experiences into their performances. Yussef, in particular, reflects on the significance of portraying an Arab character whose pursuit of knowledge resonated with his own life.
It’s a fitting conversation to close out a season of Something Genuine—one centered on people, their experiences, and the stories that help us understand one another.
