Desir is back! Sorry, for fans of A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special, featuring a hero who gets the chance to relive his quest to stop the Shadow Labyrinth calamity from consuming the world, of course he’s back! But he’s also “not back,” not in the regular human realm, with season two taking us several weeks or months ahead from season one’s finale, where we find Desir, Pram, and Azest in the Shadow World working to prevent an attack by the Estebans on the Holy Domain of Evernatten. The three heroes use Desir’s prescient knowledge and their own powers to fight back against these powerful warriors, but that’s just one key to preventing the fall of this kingdom; there’s still another part of this quest to complete. And another question arises as well: Where is Romantica?

I love love LOVE this series. If you’re looking for a series to pick up this fall and haven’t yet watched A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special, I suggest you speed through season one and pick up this newest season, which incorporates better animation but retains the wonderful characters and deep heart of this series. Desir is the type of leader that makes you want to be a better person, willing to do whatever it takes to save those he loves and to simply do the right thing, while the rest of his party believe in him with their whole hearts. All this love comes through in episode one to go along with a really cool fight scene between Azest and Hawk of Crimson Blood, intriguing details about what’s to come in season two (including the first appearance I can remember of a “goddess” or overseer figure), and an after-credits scene. What a start to the new season!
