Since this is season 2 and it’s been five years, let’s start by reviewing the cast. First up is Kimihiko; he’s the former sidekick of the self-proclaimed “Great Detective” Siesta, the eponymous dead detective. Then there’s Nagisa, a girl who used to be named Alicia, who also had an evil personality named Hel who killed Siesta, but after having Siesta’s heart transplanted into her, the Hel personality was suppressed, and now she’s Nagisa. Next up are an idol, Yui, and an assassin called Char. All of them showed up in the previous season, so I don’t think I’m spoiling anything…probably. New to the party is Noches, an android modelled after Siesta. Besides reminding us about the main characters and some recapping, what happens in this episode is that Noches drops a couple of revelations, Kimihiko and Nagisa have a heart-to-heart, and…one thing at the end I won’t spoil.

I hate when an anime takes ages to get additional seasons. This show originally aired back in 2021, and while I know I enjoyed it and recognize the characters, there are a lot of blanks in my memory. This premiere was needlessly confusing, partly because the episode is legitimately disjointed and fails to explain some stuff, but probably partly due to the fact that it’s been so long since the first season that I can’t remember things. Anyway, I’ll probably give this show at least a couple more episodes just because I remember liking the first season, but, well…this episode would be a TERRIBLE place to start watching this show. If the characters sound at all intriguing, start with season 1 or read the light novel, and if you did watch the first season, you might wanna read a recap or something to help you know what’s going on.
