First Impression: Full Clearing Another World under a Goddess with Zero Believers

After being buried alive in their bus on the way home from a school trip, a class of students awakens in another world. There, they are given skills and begin new, exciting lives. But Makoto, the last student to awaken, discovers that his skills—calm mind, water magic (beginner), RPG player—are seemingly as basic as can be, and his stats are low to boot. So while he attends a class filled with little kids to try to master his very low water magic skill, the rest of his classmates receive blessings, move to the next city, and are recruited to important positions. But Makoto will make do with what he has—and finds, also, that he’s caught the eye of a goddess, though she seems a little shady to him.

Let me get this out of the way—everything in episode one of Full Clearing Another World under a Goddess with Zero Believers is recycled, from the average but actually brave and wily protagonist to the clumsy goddess, and from the overbearing classmates receiving strong skills to Makoto being a gamer who knows how to work the system. It’s all cobbled together from other isekai, leading to an opening episode as average as its protagonist. The series even fails to get too stark or be too humorous, walking a middle line where it’s not quite chipper and fun, nor dark and epic. So don’t expect anything spectacular from this series. That doesn’t mean, however, that this can’t be comfort food for the isekai fan. Aside from the weirdly out-of-place CGI goblins, the quality of episode one is fine, from the animation to the lively sound effects. And while Makoto isn’t memorable yet, I find him believable as a character who’ll grow stronger and become a hero in this world through the skills he does inherit and the mindset he brings. The goddess, too, is a pretty perfect mixture of pretty and silly; she features heavily in the cute ED, and I’m assuming will appear as Makoto’s main companion in all future episodes. I sometimes like series that do what we as anime viewers expect, even if they aren’t terrifically creative, so I’ll keep tuning in for a while; however, Full Clearing Another World under a Goddess with Zero Believers is going to have to show me some stronger writing soon if I’m to stick with the series in a sea of similar isekai.
