Despising the Shame of Heroic Hypocrisy

I usually read up on anime before watching them, trying to get a feel for the content and whether it’s something I’d enjoy. One show I ending up deciding not to watch, despite the high regard in which many hold it, is Puella Magi Madoka Magica. After reading about PMMM, I still tried the first… Read More Despising the Shame of Heroic Hypocrisy

Attack on Titan, Episode 46: To Become a Queen

While most of episode 46’s focus was on the shock value of Attack on Titan that we may have forgotten (though this episode was very heavy on being gross—titan brains and guts—than on typical violence and gore), there remained strands of two journeys we’ve followed along this season, those of Historia and Eren. When Historia… Read More Attack on Titan, Episode 46: To Become a Queen

A Fear of Failure and the Need to Recreate

No one enjoys failure. I think most of us, though, accept that failure is going to happen, that it’s even necessary to grow because it demonstrates a life that reaches beyond its typical boundaries, a willingness to experiment and change, and the possibility of identifying one’s weaknesses. But there are those of us—and I’m firmly… Read More A Fear of Failure and the Need to Recreate

Orange Episode 11: Change Comes Slowly

It’s been a while since Naho had this much difficulty fulfilling the letters’ advice. Her friends came alongside her, so her tasks have been a lot easier. Her worries haven’t been as much of a focus now that she knows she’s not alone. With their help, she has experienced a great deal more success, too,… Read More Orange Episode 11: Change Comes Slowly

Love Live! Sunshine!! Ep. 8: Loveless World

Wow. This might be the most emotional episode I have seen from either Love Live series. True to the foreshadowing from the last episode, things do not go well for Aqours in Tokyo; however, things go even worse than I had imagined. That said, this failure is arguably exactly what this series needed in order to… Read More Love Live! Sunshine!! Ep. 8: Loveless World

The many faces of Nadeshiko! (And this is from just one episode)
Anime Side-by-Side: Mami Tomoe, Puella Magi Madoka Magica (2011) vs. Rika Kawai, Wonder Egg Priority (2021)
[twwk] “I’ll knock you off your feet with a shot to the heart!” Another week, another catchphrase. 😆
[twwk] Like Ai, I have a complex about my eyes. She hides her heterochromia, while I have one eye that’s smaller than the other. It used to really bother me. It still does a little, but I think as the result of age and maturity, as well as confidence directly related to understanding who I am in Christ, has led me to worry less and less about my appearance.
