Newman’s Nook: Don’t be a Doormat

Wakana Gojo is a shy high school boy with a passion for sewing clothing for hina dolls. Marin Kitagawa is a popular girl who is very interested in jumping into cosplay, but isn’t capable of making costumes. The crossing of their interests and the relationship that develops from it forms the basis of the manga… Read More Newman’s Nook: Don’t be a Doormat

ACCA: A Hidden Spark

For all the talk of uprisings in ACCA, what we’ve seen of Dowa kingdom has been very peaceful and fortunate. Certainly, there is a sense of unease, and we know there are greater events stirring behind the scenes, but the nation seems to be doing well overall. But in this time of tranquility, the people… Read More ACCA: A Hidden Spark

Orange Episode 13: For Your Happiness

At last, we have come to the end of Orange. Throughout the story, we have been wondering whether it is, in fact, possible for Kakeru to make it out alive. With the danger that everything might turn out worse than before, only the ending could prove whether or not the letters could save anyone.

Blue Spring Ride, Episode 7: Honesty

After getting so down on Futaba last week, I was really glad to see an entire episode dealing with her dilemma and her real desire to tell Yuuri the truth.  But further, episode seven of Blue Spring Ride (Ao Haru Ride) continue to showed Futaba’s shortcomings, which are the same we all have. The show… Read More Blue Spring Ride, Episode 7: Honesty

Hourou Musuko Episode 04: A Prayer from the Heart

At the end of episode four of Hourou Musuko, a scene occured which took me by surprise (in a good way).  Chiba heads toward a facility – at first, we’re unsure of what it is, but it soon becomes clear that it is some sort of church or cathedral.  There, she bows and prays. Dear… Read More Hourou Musuko Episode 04: A Prayer from the Heart

Cross Game of Love, Part I: Playing Games

Like many of us, I have a laundry list of anime to watch.  So this past week, I dived in.  For whatever reason though, I decided to try a show that wasn’t on my checklist.  And so, I began Cross Game, not knowing much about it and in fact confusing it with a much older show, Touch… Read More Cross Game of Love, Part I: Playing Games

Helck has really been fun for me, and not just because the protagonist looks like He-Man. It’s been funny, cute, and intriguing. Can’t wait for volume three (and the anime adaptation, too). https://twitter.com/animetangles/status/1638164830342225920

Tangle x Cast 12: Walking by Faith Through the Chu Tangle x Cast 12: Walking by Faith Through the Chunin Exams

The arc that properly introduced us to the amazing cast of Naruto characters is still a great watch today, and not just because of its action and humor. The “Chunin Exams” arc of Naruto is filled with inspirational stories and even further, models of how one should be living out a life of faith. @pariscosplays, @kyuubikaze, and @staledogg leap into action this week about faith and their favorite ninjas (and play a couple of ninja games while they’re at it, too). Believe it!

CAST QUESTION: Which team would win in a battle: Team Tyler (Asuma, Naruto, Ino, Kankuro), Team Mike (Might Guy, Shikamaru, Hinata, Shino), or Team Paris (Kakashi, Gaara, Rock Lee, and Sasuke)? Let us know in the comments!

PV: A Galaxy Next Door I absolutely love the mang PV: A Galaxy Next Door

I absolutely love the manga from which this anime is adapted, naming it as one of last year’s best in our annual “Best of” post on Beneath the Tangles. The anime premieres April 9th just a few short weeks away! Make sure to stay tuned here for our first impression posts as new series premiere for the spring.

@crunchyroll will air the anime, which it describes as such:

Ever since their father died, Ichirou Kuga has struggled to support his two younger siblings on nothing but a small inheritance and his passion for drawing manga. A Galaxy Next Door, tells the story of what happens when Kuga’s new mysterious assistant, Shiori Goshiki, declares them to be engaged to be married.

A quick glance at our Reader’s Corner selections A quick glance at our Reader’s Corner selections for this post, many of which are debuting today, reveals part of the reason why manga continues to grow in popularity. The variety of stories being told through these releases is breathtaking. From a young woman reliving her yesterday a thousand times to a food truck running in a post-apocalyptic world, and from a girl who is fighting back against her dependence on the night to the final volume of a time-traveling shoujo series about depression and death, this week’s reviews show the breadth of the form’s creativity. Head over to beneaththetangles.com in see what we think of these and other inventive works from the world of manga, manhwa, and light novels!

TEASER: Solo Leveling Oooh! So close, yet so far TEASER: Solo Leveling

Oooh! So close, yet so far away still. The Solo Leveling anime will premiere in the winter season. Here’s how @crunchyroll describes the series:

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. In this world of tough customers, the low-ranked hunter Jinwoo Sung is known as “the weakest hunter of all mankind.” One day, Jinwoo gets fatally injured when he runs into high-rank double dungeons hidden within a low-rank dungeon. Just then, a mysterious quest window appears in front of him. On the verge of death, Jinwoo decides to accept the quest and starts leveling up... while the others aren’t.

I’ve been reading through both the webnovel and webcomic versions for our Reader’s Corner column. Super addicting (and super Korean haha). I can’t wait for the anime!
