Light Novel Recommendations

While we’ve never been a review site, visitors and supporters still naturally ask for our take on anime and related properties. While you’ll find our thoughts scattered throughout the blog and more specifically on our staff’s Twitter feeds, we’ve taken on the mantle of providing what we feel are appropriate recommendations for Christian audiences covering a wide variety of media—anime (series and films), manga, and visual novels. Today, I’m proud to announce an addition to that group: our new light novel recommendation page.

Over the past couple of years, stardf29 has led our light novel club, which has explored a wide variety of works from the rapidly growing selection available in English. Our light novel club will continue forward (we’re on a short break before we come back with a new structure as we ring in 2020!), but we’ve also created this more permanent page for those looking to dive into the light novel world, but are worried that certain series may offend their sensibilities, or just have no idea where to start. Well, we’ve got seven franchises that we offer as good choices:

  • Ascendance of a Bookworm
  • Bungaku Shoujo
  • Invaders of the Rokujouma!?
  • Kokoro Connect
  • Obsessions of an Otome Gamer
  • Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicle
  • Sword Art Online Progressive

The above series vary widely when it comes to content, and each reader is different in what he or she finds acceptable, so I encourage you visit our page for more details about each of the series. And don’t forget our other recommendation pages as well:

Happy reading!

  1. I’m not as well read in the light novel scene, but I do know one series that ought to be included (even if it is an older one):

    Crest of the Stars

I got those novels a while ago and they are very very good. Just the kind of sci-fi I like to read.
