The 12 Days of Christmas Anime

What do you think of when you think “Christmas?”

Santa Claus? Snow? Presents under the tree? Romantic dates, Christmas cake, and KFC?

Wait…KFC?

If the Colonel came to mind, you’re our kind of people. While we want to emphasize the holy meaning of the holiday, as expressed through the Advent season, we also want to help you simply celebrate, no matter what faith you follow. And of course, our way of doing so is through anime!

Each year, we march toward Christmas by discussing one anime (or sometimes manga, video game, or light novel) each day through the 25th, starting on December 14th. There are so very many Christmas episodes of anime out there (in fact, we ask that you please add to our list of them!) that we’ve got our pick of the litter—yet, a small number have turned into classics or are in series that themselves have attained a special place in otaku culture, and we’ll be covering some of those this year as always. We’ll be posting articles on episodes that run the gamut from joyful nonsense to more solemn and meaningful, including a number of anime we haven’t covered in these posts before—two of them are brand new from 2020 anime!

And we start on Monday with a series about looking to the sky—very apt when we consider that there were those looking to the sky some 2,000 years ago, and what they saw led them to the one shows birth we celebrate.
