The field is set. Sixty-four anime—a full tourney and the most we’ve ever had—are ready to go head to head. AniMarch Madness 2022 almost ready to begin!
On February 28th, we begin our voter-determined tournament where we annually select the top anime in all the land! Voting begins on Monday here on the blog and through our various social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Discord.
Entrants were chosen based on past performance and by strength within their region. Unlike NCAA March Madness, where teams are selected and then bracketed into regions, we look at the best performing anime within a topical region and slot them in. Our four regions are Popular / Shounen, Critical Darlings, 2021 Anime, and Comedy / Romance Anime. As you can imagine, the 64-anime field is absolutely packed with high-profile series.
None may be more popular right now than last year’s winner, Attack on Titan. Eren and company were the first series to dethrone four-time winner, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and could very well win again based on their currently airing season. But there are a ton of other beloved anime in the running, and your vote certainly counts!
So take a look at the bracket below, see if your favorites made it in, get excited, and come back to this site and our social media platforms on February 28th.
Let the madness begin!
- Fanart Friday, Too: Clerith Christmas - 12.01.2023
- Doki Doki News: Live-Action Naruto, Oshi no Ko Season 2, and Pokemon Horizons to Netflix - 12.01.2023
- Reader’s Corner: The Villainess Turns the Hourglass, When I Became a Commoner, They Broke Off Our Engagement, and Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle - 11.28.2023
This sounds like a lot of fun! The ranking tree was kind of hard to read, the type was really small.
Wait, is that Cowboy Bebop VS. Bunny Drop!?
The painful matchups begin!
I don’t mean to be persnickety, but all the seeds are off. They should be in this order:
1-16
8-9
5-12
4-13
6-11
3-14
7-10
2-15
That’s the way they go in every March Madness bracket, because it’s made in such a way that the top seeds don’t play each other until the later rounds.
Yeah I’m not sure what happened when we made our bracket, but that’s how our notes look. They’ll be in the proper order next time.
And FIXED. Thanks for catching that. Yikes.
Good job! Now the fun part comes.
“Legend of the Galactic Heroes” is starting from a 10th seed? Well, they don’t call Yang Wen-li “The Magician” for nothing, he won tougher battles than this.
It would take quite a strategy from Yang. LotGH ranks so low because it’s never made it out of round one. 😮
The 86 have fought tougher battles – I wish them well, and newcomer ERASAED will be one to watch too 🙂 (Yes, it’s obviously a typo)
