Dear Friends,
Today is our 12th birthday! On September 12, 2010, I posted our first article, and away we went. During this past decade-plus, our ministry has changed in so many ways, but our goal has remained the same: To reach out to otaku with the love of Christ through community.
To that end, instead of taking birthday kudos from all of you, I want to focus on that aspect of community today and thank you for being a part of it. From the casual readers, to those more deeply involved, I appreciate all of you. You are all part of our mission, and are all involved in the vision for this ministry:
Beneath the Tangles is developing a transformative community where our staff members can use their passion for anime and Japanese media, love for God and for people, and skills and talents to grow into a brand that is well-known and regarded among anime fans, with the goal of reaching out to the otaku community and sharing the gospel message through our words and actions. In doing this, we are seeking to participate in Christ’s command to teach about faith and make disciples, and care for the church by offering authentic and loving support to Christian believers who are part of the otaku community.
Whether you just check in periodically with Beneath the Tangles or engage with us more frequently, I’d like to invite you to make this community more and more your online home. There is a variety of ways you can do this, though our Discord server might be the best of all. Our server is moderated by caring folks who facilitate encouraging and fun discussions. It also hosts a small group that meets weekly to talk about scripture.
You can also follow our various social media channels and comment on our posts. This helps stir interest and discussion in the community and encourages the staff members who develop and post the content. We also love responding to your messages! We’re active on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, and recently relaunched our TikTok account, too.
Were you a listener of the TangleCast? Do you miss the team? Well, we’re excited to announce that a brand new group is taking the reins and will be posting again starting next month. Soon, you’ll be able to plug into that community as well, interacting with the podcasters and their content. I can’t wait to introduce y’all to the new team! Subscribe now (Apple, Spotify, SoundCloud, and other platforms) to be ready for the launch!
We’re also very thankful for all those who participate in the community as patrons! Patreon provides a way to both demonstrate your love for what we do through financial support, and serve through means that might be fitting with your life stage and interest.
And finally, you may want to consider joining our crew! We just launched a bunch of “job” openings, as we seek volunteers to help us in all manner of roles, in both longstanding places of need and new areas of growth.
So whether it’s as a staff member or a follower, a prayer warrior or financial contributor, a listener or viewer, or a commenter or silent supporter, we’re thankful for the role you play in this community and ministry and hope that you’ll continue to be involved with Beneath the Tangles in the years to come, and maybe even deepen your commitment to our community!
