On Beneath the Tangles, we geek out about anime while pointing otaku toward the amazing love of God. One of the primary ways we do that is by posting articles where our writers draw connections between themes, characters, and other elements of anime and the Christian faith. We view anime and manga as rich media forms that, despite only very rarely intending to explain Christian principles, beautifully illustrate many of the truths we hold to in our faith. And we need excellent writers to help us accomplish this goal!
Curious about what it takes to be one of our writers? Here are the requirements and duties for the position:
Volunteer Duties:
- Writing analytical pieces monthly which examine faith through the lens of anime, manga, and/or other Japanese and Japanese-influenced works
- Contribute “quick reviews” to our first impression posts each anime season
- Participate in special writing projects, like our annual Christmas series
- Review anime and manga as time allows
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Have excellent writing skills
- Be responsible and highly motivated
- Be willing to work with an editor, make multiple revisions to drafts, and complete articles within a reasonable timeframe
- Have a love for God and passion for reaching people with the gospel message, particularly those in the otaku community
- Affirm our site beliefs
While there’s no monetary compensation, there are more intrinsic rewards for being a part of our staff, including participation in a unique mission to reach the anime community for Christ. Also, as part of our team, you’ll find spiritual and community support if you desire it. Finally, you’ll be joining a thriving ministry occupying an important role in a culture embracing anime more and more.
