Anime March Madness 2019: Play-in Matches

One of our favorite traditions here on Beneath the Tangles is our Anime March Madness tournament, where we pit anime against anime in a quest to name your favorite! Started by @mdmrn four years ago, we continue to expand the voting—you can vote each round here and on Facebook, Instagram, and for the first time, Twitter. The actual tournament begins on March 4th (and by the way, we’re going to have a prize this year—more on that next week), but today we’re bringing you another new feature for 2019—the play-in matches!

Thirty-two anime series will qualify for the official tournament, but we’re starting with a few more than that who are trying to play their way into the dance. Please vote on the one match below, and then follow us on Tumblr, Instagram, and Twitter, where more matches will be available tomorrow, and especially on Facebook, where the entire slate from our “2018 Anime” category/region will go up, with a total of eight matches there released one by one throughout the morning. You’ll have 24 hours to vote for all polls. Also, if you support us through Patreon, you’ll find an exclusive match you can vote on as well!

Thanks for participating, and look forward to an entire month of anime madness!

  1. I voted for Trigun, even though if it gets in I know it’ll be shot down early on because…well, I don’t know why. Too many people can’t get past the first few episodes? Or they’ve never even heard of it?

A travesty of justice either way, but Trigun will always be #1 to me.

    1. Trigun might do alright? Maybe? This blog’s readers are Trigun fans, though many of our social media subscribed have probably never heard of it. 😩

      Love and peace!! ✌️
