5. Fruits Basket
Fans were elated when it was announced Fruits Basket was returning as a remake. With all new voice actors and production talent, and approved by the mangaka, the first season of Fruits Basket was well-received, capturing the emotion of the original tale while applying beautiful animation; the latter was a thrill for many viewers, since the previous anime has not aged well. Another criticism of that version was that it didn’t cover the entirety of the manga; we’ll see the full manga adapted as we move into season two, but season one was strong enough on its own merit to receive serious consideration for best anime of 2019.
